Next Stoke Manager Odds: The big favourite to replace Steven Schumacher revealed

The bookmakers have installed a big early favourite in the next Stoke manager odds market.

Stoke City have parted company with Steven Schumacher following Saturday's 1-0 defeat at Oxford United - a third defeat in five league matches this season for the Potters.

It brings about an abrupt end to a nine-month spell in charge at the bet365 Stadium for Schumacher, who left Plymouth to take the job last December.

Former Crewe boss Alex Morris and former captain Ryan Shawcross will take charge of the side on a caretaker basis, starting with Tuesday's EFL Cup tie against Fleetwood.

Schumacher leaves Stoke hunting a new manager and 13th in the Championship table, three points above the bottom three and three points off the playoff positions.

Stoke City are 4/1 to make the playoffs on Sky Bet and a best price 18/1 (shortest price 12/1) to be relegated from the Championship with the same bookmaker.

Who is the favourite to be the next Stoke manager?

Ryan Lowe is the clear bookmakers’ favourite (2/1 on BetVictor) to replace Steven Schumacher in the next Stoke City manager odds market.

Lowe was sacked by Preston after the first match of the Championship season in August, having led the side 13th, 12th and 10th place finishes since taking the job in December 2021, immediately after leaving Plymouth Argyle.

Second favourite Nigel Pearson is a 5/1 chance having been out of work for nearly a year since leaving Bristol City, while Frank Lampard is a surprise 8/1 shot. Rounding off the top five are former Rangers manager Michael Beale (10/1) and Charlie Adam (12/1) - a player for the club between 2012 and 2019.

Ryan Shawcross, who played 401 times and scored 22 goals during his 13 years as a player at Stoke, is 16/1 to get the job on a permanent basis, while his co-caretaker boss Alex Morris is 25/1.

Frank Lampard Stoke Odds

The eye-catching third favourite to replace Steven Schumacher as Stoke manager is former Derby, Chelsea and Everton boss Frank Lampard (8/1).

Despite an illustrious playing career, Lampard has struggled for success in the dugout so far. His most recent managerial role came when he took over on an interim basis at Chelsea in April 2023, winning just one of his 11 games in charge with a win percentage of just 9%.

However, he fared much better at Chelsea as their permanent manager between July 2019 and January 2021, winning 44 of his 84 games in charge - as he finished in the Top 4 and reached the FA Cup final in 2019/20.

The highlight of his time at Everton was keeping them up after narrowly avoiding relegation at the end of the 2021/22 season, but was sacked midway through the following season.

When will Stoke's next manager be announced?

Stoke are expected to move quickly to appoint Schumacher's replacement.

Sporting Director Jon Walters said this upon announcing Schumacher’s exit: “We have a young, dynamic squad that is eager to develop and a clear vision of how to achieve success, and we hope to announce a new appointment shortly."
