Ruben Amorim only 54% likely to outlast Erik ten Hag as Man Utd manager

The bookmakers remain unconvinced about Ruben Amorim's long term future as Man Utd manager before his first match against Ipswich.

Ruben Amorim is only just preparing for his first match as manager of Man Utd at Ipswich but the doubters are already queueing up to question how long he will keep the job.

According to odds of 17/20 on Paddy Power, Amorim is only 54% likely to outlast Erik ten Hag, who was sacked after 850 days last month.

The 39-year-old has signed a contract at Old Trafford until 2027 with the option of an additional year held by the club.

If he was to leave his role after 850 days, he would depart before his contract runs out and fail to convince the board to give him an extra year.

For the more optimistic fans, the Paddy Power special markets also include 13/8 for Utd to win any of Premier League, FA Cup, League Cup & Europa League in 24/25 (38% chance).

Ruben Amorim Man Utd Lineup

Ruben Amorim is expected to ring the changes from what he came to expect under Erik ten Hag, giving fresh hope to the likes of Harry Maguire as part of a revamped defence.

Meanwhile, the likes of Luke Shaw, Mason Mount, Leny Yoro, Tyrell Malacia and Kobbie Mainoo are back in training after recent injury problems, although it is unlikely all of them will be ready to play in Amorim's first match at Ipswich.

Ruben Amorim Formation

Ruben Amorim is expected to play a 3-4-2-1 formation from the start of his Utd tenure. Longer term, Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt and Lisandro Martinez could be his preferred back three, although a knock for Martinez could hand a chance at Ipswich to Maguire, one of six centre backs at the club (Lindelöf and Evans the others).

England international Luke Shaw should secure the left wing back role if he can keep himself fit but faces competition from the likes of Malacia and Diogo Dalot, himself locked in a battle with Noussair Mazraoui on the other flank.

Manuel Ugarte, who worked with Amorim at Sporting earlier in his career, is favourite to beat Casemiro to selection in midfield alongside Mainoo.

Club captain Bruno Fernandes will take up one of the two spots behind the central striker, leaving fierce competition for the other between Alejandro Garnacho, Amad Diallo, Antony, Mount and Marcus Rashford.

Rashford could alternatively be picked as the number nine for Amorim ahead of Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee.

Man Utd Transfer News

Inevitably, Amorim's move to Man Utd sparked rumours that his star Sporting striker Viktor Gyokeres would follow him to Old Trafford.

The Swedish sharpshooter, has 45 goals in just 44 league matches for Sporting and scored five times for Sweden over the international break in matches against Slovakia and Azerbaijan.

He is 7/1 on Paddy Power to join Man Utd in January, while Sky Bet have him shorter at 4/1 and make him a 10/1 chance to join Arsenal before the end of the January window.
