Rangers Next Manager Odds: Steven Gerrard Back Into Odds-On Betting Favourite

Another twist in the next Rangers manager saga as Steven Gerrard has once again become betting favourite for the role.

After reportedly rejecting the role last week, there has been a surge of betting support across Wednesday morning for Steven Gerrard to return to Ibrox as the new Rangers manager

Opening the day at odds of 16/1, some bookmakers across Oddschecker had cut Gerrard's odds to 1/4 around midday on Wednesday 15th October.

At the time of writing (2pm Wednesday 15th), Gerrard has drifted back out to 5/4 in places and remains the marginal betting favourite.

63% of all bets placed across Oddschecker on Wednesday have backed Steven Gerrard for the role, an increase from the 10% share of bets he'd received this week beforehand.

Former favourite, Kevin Muscat, now trails Gerrard at odds of 6/4 in the betting, followed by Danny Rohl (10/1) and Ole Gunnar Solksjaer (11/1) as the only contender with odds of 20/1 or shorter.

Who is the betting favourite to be next Rangers manager?

As mentioned, Steven Gerrard is the current 5/4 betting favourite at the time of writing, closely followed by Kevin Muscat at 6/4.

Danny Rohl, Ole Gunnar Solksjaer, and Derek McInnes round out the top five in the odds.

Betting Favourites to be Next Rangers Manager

Steven Gerrard
Former Rangers manager who delivered the 2020/21 Premiership title and an unbeaten league campaign. After mixed spells at Aston Villa and Al-Ettifaq, he’s viewed as a candidate with proven SPFL know-how and an existing cultural fit, though his recent club record invites debate over risk/reward.

Kevin Muscat
Attack-minded, possession-dominant coach with trophies in Australia and Japan and a prior Rangers connection as a player. His high-tempo, front-foot style aligns with Ibrox expectations; practicalities around availability and compensation would need resolving.

Danny Röhl
Highly rated young coach credited with transforming Sheffield Wednesday through intensity, structure and clear in-possession patterns. Former assistant at Bayern Munich and with Germany, he’s considered an upward-trajectory option whose methodology appeals, albeit with limited top-flight head-coach mileage.

Ole Gunnar Solskjær
Ex-Manchester United and Molde manager, known for man-management and developing younger players. Solksjaer brings big-club experience and profile, with questions around tactical fit and appetite for a project in Scotland.

Derek McInnes
Kilmarnock boss and former Aberdeen manager with deep SPFL experience and a reputation for organising competitive sides on sensible budgets. Seen as a low-transition-risk, domestic option who understands the recruitment landscape, though some fans may prefer a more transformative pick.

Tips for Betting on Football Manager Markets

Manager markets differ from standard match betting because they’re driven by speculation, timing, and insider movement rather than on-pitch events. Odds for the Next Rangers Manager will shift quickly whenever credible reports, media leaks, or social posts suggest interviews or board preferences. A single journalist tweet or bookmaker “suspending” bets can cause a surge in backing and sharp drops in price within hours.

Unlike fixture markets, these prices reflect perceived likelihood rather than form or stats — so when one candidate shortens, others usually drift. News of an agent meeting, a club statement, or even sudden silence from the favourite can all trigger movement. The best approach for bettors is to monitor momentum and timing: early punts can offer value before stories break publicly, but odds can also collapse once a frontrunner is confirmed to be in talks.

For casual punters, remember that manager markets can remain open even after verbal agreements — meaning late reversals or leaks can still reshape the field. Always check Oddschecker’s live grid to compare prices and spot shifts across multiple bookmakers before placing a bet.
