Netherlands Next Manager Odds: Slot Backed to Replace Koeman

Check out the next Netherlands manager odds, with Arne Slot favourite to replace Ronald Koeman.

Arne Slot is the early favourite in the Netherlands next manager odds after Ronald Koeman resigned following the Oranje’s 2026 World Cup exit.

Koeman stepped down after the Netherlands were knocked out by Morocco in the first knockout round, with  the KNVB technical director Nigel de Jong describing the campaign as disappointing given the pre-tournament objective was to reach the semi-finals and compete for the trophy.

Who is favourite to be the next Netherlands manager?

Arne Slot is the current favourite to become the next Netherlands manager, with a best price of 5/2 available on Oddschecker.

Why is Arne Slot favourite?

Slot looks the obvious market leader because he is Dutch, available and has one of the strongest recent CVs in the betting. Liverpool confirmed in May that Slot had left his role as head coach after delivering the club’s 20th league title in his first season, also being named LMA Manager of the Year during his spell at Anfield.

Many of the other names in the market are either under contract or already working inside club structures, whereas Slot would not require the same level of release negotiation.

Koeman’s final tournament was criticised for inconsistency, and the Dutch media had questioned performances ranging from sluggish possession to a more energetic display against Sweden. Slot would represent a modern, club-level appointment with a clear tactical identity, while still fitting the KNVB preference for a coach who understands Dutch football culture.

Could Ruud van Nistelrooy replace Koeman?

Ruud van Nistelrooy is second in the market at 7/2, and his position makes sense given his existing link to the national team setup.

In January, Van Nistelrooy had returned to the Netherlands coaching staff under Koeman ahead of the World Cup, having previously worked with the national squad as an assistant under Guus Hiddink and Danny Blind.

That makes him a continuity candidate. He already knows the squad, the tournament environment and the internal KNVB structure. The obvious drawback is experience. His senior managerial record is shorter than Slot’s or Bosz’s, and his most recent club role at Leicester ended after their relegation from the Premier League.

Still, if the KNVB want a familiar face who can quickly stabilise the group before the Nations League, Van Nistelrooy is a logical contender.

Michael Reiziger and Peter Bosz also prominent

Michael Reiziger is 4/1 and could appeal as the in-house development option. The KNVB appointed him as Jong Oranje coach in 2023, highlighting his work with young players, his spell as Ajax assistant and his 72 caps for the Netherlands.

Reiziger would be a more progressive appointment than a proven elite-club name, but he fits the pathway model. With the Netherlands squad still built around a strong core of players entering or in their prime, a coach with strong youth-development credentials may appeal.

Peter Bosz is available at 5/1, although his current PSV position may be a major obstacle. PSV confirmed in February that Bosz had extended his contract until mid-2028, which makes him less straightforward to appoint than Slot.

From a football perspective, Bosz would be a strong fit. His attacking approach, Eredivisie pedigree and success at PSV would tick many of the same stylistic boxes as Slot. The question is whether the KNVB can realistically prise him away from Eindhoven.

Other contenders in the Netherlands next manager odds

John Heitinga is priced at 6/1. Ajax announced in 2025 that Heitinga had returned as head coach on a deal running until June 2027, which makes his position more complicated from an availability perspective.

Erik ten Hag is also 6/1, but he is currently tied to FC Twente in a technical director role through to mid-2028. His experience at Ajax and Manchester United ensures he will always feature in a market like this, but moving from a newly accepted executive role into international management would be a significant shift.

Robin van Persie is 7/1 after moving into management with Feyenoord. He signed a contract until June 2027 when taking the Feyenoord job in 2025, with the club highlighting his international experience and attacking football vision.

Oliver Glasner is the leading non-Dutch name in the image at 8/1. He would offer a different profile, but the early shape of the market suggests bookmakers expect the KNVB to prioritise a Dutch candidate.

When do the Netherlands play next?

The next Netherlands manager will have a clear early test, with the Oranje due to start their 2026/27 UEFA Nations League campaign against Germany on 24 September 2026. They then face Serbia away on 27 September, Greece away on 1 October and Serbia at home on 4 October.

That gives the KNVB a limited window to appoint Koeman’s successor, settle the staff and reset the squad before a demanding League A group.
