Scotland Next Manager Odds: Ange & David Moyes Popular Bets

Check out the latest odds to replace Steve Clark as Scotland's next manager, with Ange & David Moyes proving popular bets.

Ange Postecoglou is the current favourite in the Scotland next manager odds market, but David Moyes has been the name attracting the most betting attention on Oddschecker this week.

Steve Clarke stepped down after Scotland’s 2026 World Cup exit, ending a seven-year spell in charge. The Scottish FA described him as the country’s most successful national coach, with Clarke having led Scotland to three major tournaments, including their first men’s World Cup since 1998.

Scotland are now looking for a new manager before their next competitive campaign, with the 2026/27 Nations League beginning away to Slovenia on 26 September.

Who is favourite to be the next Scotland manager?

Ange Postecoglou is the favourite to replace Steve Clarke, with a best price of 3/1 currently available on Oddschecker. The former Celtic and Tottenham manager is followed by John McGlynn at 6/1, while Steven Naismith, David Moyes and Alex Neil are all available at 8/1.

David Moyes and Ange Postecoglou dominate betting this week

Despite Postecoglou heading the market, it is David Moyes who has proved most popular with Oddschecker users so far this week.

Moyes has taken 35% of bets in the next Scotland manager market, while Postecoglou has attracted 27%. That means the two leading names have accounted for 62% of all bets placed through Oddschecker this week.

Postecoglou is viewed by bookmakers as the most likely appointment, but Moyes appears to be the public’s preferred choice. His Scotland links, Premier League pedigree and long-standing reputation as a potential future national team boss make him an obvious name for punters to latch onto.

Why is Ange Postecoglou favourite?

Postecoglou’s appeal is clear. He knows Scottish football after his hugely successful Celtic spell, where he won five domestic trophies in two seasons, including the 2022/23 treble.

He also brings international experience, having managed Australia at the 2014 World Cup and won the 2015 Asian Cup. That combination of tournament experience and Scottish football knowledge makes him a strong fit on paper.

There is also the stylistic contrast with Clarke. Scotland qualified consistently under Clarke, but the next appointment may be expected to refresh the team’s attacking identity. Postecoglou’s front-foot approach would represent a clear change of direction.

The question is whether Scotland can tempt him. Postecoglou has recently managed at Premier League level and won the Europa League with Tottenham in 2025, ending the club’s 17-year trophy wait.

Could David Moyes become Scotland manager?

Moyes has long felt like a natural Scotland manager-in-waiting, but the timing could be complicated.

The Scot returned to Everton in January 2025 on a two-and-a-half-year contract, and reports earlier this year suggested Everton were planning to offer him a new deal after a strong turnaround at the club.

That may explain why Moyes is a bigger price than Postecoglou despite being the most backed manager on Oddschecker. At 8/1, he could appeal to punters who believe the Scotland job may prove difficult to turn down, but his current club situation remains the obvious hurdle.

Who are the other contenders?

John McGlynn has moved into second favourite at 6/1 after his outstanding work with Falkirk. He led the club to back-to-back promotions and a top-six Scottish Premiership finish, making him one of the strongest domestic candidates.

Steven Naismith is also prominent at 8/1. He was added to Clarke’s Scotland backroom team in 2025, has 51 Scotland caps and would represent the continuity option if the SFA wanted someone already familiar with the squad and setup.

Alex Neil, also 8/1, brings Championship experience and has managed Hamilton, Norwich, Sunderland, Stoke and Millwall. He has also been discussed as a realistic candidate following his work at Millwall.

Roberto Martinez is a more eye-catching outsider at 10/1. He is currently managing Portugal at the 2026 World Cup, but reports have suggested his future after the tournament could be uncertain.

When do Scotland play next?

Scotland’s next competitive match is away to Slovenia on 26 September 2026 in the UEFA Nations League. They then face Switzerland at Hampden three days later, before matches against North Macedonia and Slovenia in early October.

That gives the Scottish FA a clear deadline. The next manager will need time to assess the squad, decide whether to evolve Clarke’s system and prepare Scotland for a Nations League group containing Slovenia, Switzerland and North Macedonia.
