Who is favourite to replace Savage at Forest Green Rovers?

Forest Green Rovers are looking for a new manager after Robbie Savage left for Peterborough United, who confirmed him as their manager on Friday. The National League club gave Savage permission to talk to Posh on Tuesday. Jonathan Gould, Yan Klukowski and Josh Bowen are in temporary charge.

Stuart Maynard is the favourite to take over at The New Lawn, at 2/1 with BetVictor, the only bookmaker pricing the market. Adam Hinshelwood and Luke Williams are joint second favourites at 4/1.

With today's trip to Scunthorpe postponed, Forest Green don't play again until Hartlepool visit on Saturday 10 October, which gives the board a week to move.

Why Robbie Savage Left Forest Green Rovers

Savage had been in charge since July 2025 and asked to leave. Chairman Dale Vince said: "He wanted to leave the club for personal reasons, reasons which we understand and respect. He's been offered the job, and we're now in a negotiation with Peterborough on the terms. We wish Robbie the very best."

He leaves Forest Green 13th in the National League with 15 points from 11 games. They're without a win in four, and Tate Campbell's goal earned a 1-1 draw with Wealdstone in Gould's first game in charge. Last season they finished seventh and lost their play-off eliminator at Boreham Wood after extra time.

Stuart Maynard: Forest Green Rovers Manager Favourite

Maynard knows how to win this division. He led York City to the National League title last season, but was sacked by the club in July, three months later. He's out of work, so Forest Green would have no compensation to pay.

Hinshelwood, Williams and the Other Forest Green Contenders

Hinshelwood is the Worthing manager, so he'd have to leave a league rival. Williams is available after Peterborough sacked him on 19 September, and it was Savage who replaced him there. Rob Edwards won League Two with Forest Green in 2022 and has been out of work since leaving Wolves in June. Michael Duff, the favourite for the Bradford City job, is 8/1.

Mark Hughes is the only name linked with the job in local reports so far. He left Carlisle in May and has a long working relationship with Forest Green sporting director Mark Bowen, but BetVictor doesn't price him.
