The young Spaniard is one shot off the lead after the first round at Sawgrass.
Jon Rahm is the new 6/1 favourite for the Players Championship at Sawgrass after carding a four under par 68 in the opening round of the 'fifth major'. The 22 year-old is one shot behind clubhouse leaders William McGirt (28/1) and Mackenzie Hughes (70/1) who both shot 67 on Thursday.
7% of all bets through Oddschecker in the last 24 hours have been for the new favourite, accounting for over 13% of all stakes.
World number one Dustin Johnson is next in the betting at 7/1 and is three shots of Rahm in a tie for 32nd. The American has received just 2.4% of all bets as Oddschecker punters look elsewhere for their winner.
Two popular punter's picks got off to solid enough starts with Kevin Chappell begginning his week with a level-par 72 whilst Justin Thomas, who attracted just under 10% of all bets in the week leading up the tournament, shot a one-over par 73 to sit tied 66th.
The highlight of the first day was unquestionably Sergio Garcia's hole in one on the famous par three 17th. Despite this incredible feat, the Masters champion stuttered to an opening round 73 to finish one-over par. Ahead of Friday's second round he is available to back at 60/1 with one firm, a price that has seen him attract 3.6% of bets.
This is just perfect.
