Roar of the Tiger: Woods backed for future success after Tour Championship win

Roar of the Tiger: Woods backed for future success after Tour Championship win

Odds are cut for the 42-year-old to shine in the Ryder Cup this week.

Tiger Woods finally did on Sunday what he’s been threatening to do for most of the Summer: Win a tournament. His first success since 2013 finally came at the Tour Championship, where the 42-year-old triumphed by two strokes, prompting  scenes of wild celebration in Atlanta.

The victory could not have come at a better time for Tiger, as he gears up for his eighth Ryder Cup and will aim to help keep the trophy in the USA’s grasp.

His odds for various markets have tumbled since Sunday’s win at East Lake, including a long-awaited major victory, which would put him just three behind Jack Nicklaus’ total of 18.

Woods has gone from 9/1 into as short as 11/2 to be the Top American at this year’s Ryder Cup, putting him ahead of the likes of Patrick Reed and Rickie Fowler. He is a best price of 8/1.

In next year’s Masters market, Woods is now a joint-favourite, going from 12/1 into 8s in places, with a 10/1 best price: The same as Jordan Spieth.

‘Tigermania’ has also ensured that three-quarters of all bets in the Ryder Cup market since Sunday night have gone on the Americans, who remain favourites at 10/11 to retain the trophy as the famous tussle occurs on French soil for the first time.

It remains to be seen if Tiger can win a major that for so long looked so unlikely, but odds of just 7/2 for Woods to win one next year suggest that it could well be on the horizon.

If you really fancy a second coming in 2019, it is 16/1 for Woods to win 2 or more!

Oddschecker Spokesman George Elek: “Tiger Woods got over the line in the Tour Championship and the celebrations that followed show that he is as popular as ever. Now joint-favourite at 10/1 for the Masters next year, it feels like we could finally see the legend secure another major. Before that though we have the Ryder Cup and it would surprise no-one if Tiger steers the 10/11 Americans to victory in Paris.”
