Betting on Danny Willett and Charles Howell III would have fetched big money.
Punters backing the unlikely double of Danny Willett and Charles Howell III in their respective tournaments this weekend would have taken home a hefty sum at best odds.
Choosing the wrong bookie with a £20 stake could have resulted in missing out on £28,700!
Englishman Danny Willett claimed his first tournament victory since famously shocking the field to win the Masters at Augusta in 2016. He finished up two shots clear of fellow countryman Matt Wallace to win the DP World Tour Championship in Dubai.
Plagued with injury problems ever since, the 31-year-old has suffered a poor run of form that threatened to continue as a couple of bogeys almost surrendered the lead to playing partner Patrick Reed.
Meanwhile, Charles Howell III ended a 4,291-day wait for a PGA Tour win with victory at the RSM Classic at Sea Island. The 39-year-old beat Patrick Rodgers at the second play-off hole to claim his first PGA Tour win since the Nissan Open in February 2007.
His compatriot, Rodgers, set a final 36-hole record for the PGA Tour with an aggregate of 123.
The eventual winners of the two tournaments were not fancied before tee-off. Here are the pre-tournament odds for the pair:
Danny Willett (Best 80/1 - Worst 45/1)
Charles Howell (Best 40/1 - Worst 40/1)
£20 on the double with two bookies:
Best price: £66,400
Worst price: £37,700
Difference: £28,700
(Prices at 4am on Thursday 15th November, before tee-off in both events)
Oddschecker spokesperson George Elek: “It was another weekend of shocks in the golf, with two players landing unfancied victories.
Matt Wallace looked destined for a fourth European Tour win in 2018, as he entered the weekend as short as 11/2 for DP World Tour Championships, but Danny Willett's final two rounds of 68 were enough to ensure he finished two shots ahead of the Englishman and Masters champion Patrick Reed.
Charles Howell III had to wait nearly 12 years for a PGA Tour win, but did it in style by seeing off Patrick Rodgers in a play-off in the RSM Classic.
Whilst it's unlikely that many backed the double, the massive price difference highlights exactly why people should always place their bets through Oddschecker. You look for value when booking flights, hotels and insurance, so why wouldn't you do it when betting?"
