Rory McIlroy has been installed as the clear betting favourite to win this year’s Open Championship.
Priced at 9/1, McIlroy sets his sights on a second Open victory—his first coming back in 2014—at Royal Portrush, which hosts its first major in 68 years.
In total, 11% of all bets have been placed on McIlroy to lift the Claret Jug on Sunday.
McIlroy set the course record at Portrush as a 16-year-old, shooting 61, and many punters believe the stars are aligning for him to go one place better than last year and claim victory in his native Northern Ireland.
American Brooks Koepka, who has finished in the top two of the last four majors, has been installed as an 11/1 second-favourite, and it would take a brave punter to rule him out of contention.
Jon Rahm and Dustin Johnson find themselves priced at 16/1 and 18/1 respectively, while last year’s winner Francesco Molinari—who has really struggled since his excellent showing at The Masters back in April—finds himself a 34/1 shot.
