That puts him in sixth favourite within the market, behind the who’s who of the golfing world.

Dustin Johnson is the current 5/1 favourite, closely followed by Justin Thomas (6/1) and Xander Schauffele (12/1).

Jon Rahm (14/1) and pre-tournament favourite Bryson DeChambeau (16/1) are the only other contenders ahead of Casey in the betting.

Defending champion Tiger Woods has also been cut from 45/1 into 20/1 following his slick opening round.

Casey was 55/1 to end up as leader after the first round. Now, bookies are offering just 13/8.

Oddschecker spokesperson Callum Wilson: “Paul Casey has been extremely popular with punters following his fast start, attracting 7% of all bets since he finished yesterday.

“Only the five biggest names in golf are now ahead of him in the betting, in what would be a miraculous 66/1 Masters win for a number of punters.”

The Masters odds:

  • Dustin Johnson – 5/1
  • Justin Thomas – 6/1
  • Xander Schauffele – 12/1
  • Jon Rahm – 14/1
