Rory McIlroy has his eyes on major success after finding form at the Wells Fargo Championship.
Rory McIlroy could hardly have timed his return to the winner's circle better. With the second major of the year just ten days away, the Northern Irishman has been cut from 20/1 to 12/1 to win the PGA Championship.
McIlroy is the tournament’s new favourite after advancing past Dustin Johnson and Jon Rahm at the top of the market. McIlroy is as short as 8/1 with one bookmaker but can currently be found at best odds of 12/1.
Renewed confidence in McIlroy’s major potential is also evident among oddschecker punters who have overwhelmingly backed the four-time major winner to add to his collection.
In the last 24 hours, the 32-year-old has taken a considerable 27.4% of bets, his closest rival in that category is Garrick Higgo who has taken 11.6%.

McIlroy finds some major momentum at Quail Hollow
McIlroy’s final round of three under was just enough to earn him a one-stroke victory over Abraham Ancer who applied significant pressure in the final round.
The Northern Irishman has had a number of struggles with his game since he last won in November of 2019.
McIlroy’s victory was enough to reinstate himself in the top ten of the World Golf Rankings having previously slipped to 15th.
Who are the other contenders?
Despite Dustin Johnson’s lacklustre form, he remains at the top of the market at a best price of 12/1. The world number one will be looking to improve on a missed cut at the Masters when the PGA Championship comes around.
Since finishing T9 at The Player’s Championship, Spain’s Jon Rahm has missed back-to-back cuts at the Masters and the Wells Fargo Championship. Rahm will need to improve significantly to justify his short 12/1 price at the PGA Championship.
PGA Championship 2021 Odds:
- Rory McIlroy 12/1
- Dustin Johnson 12/1
- John Rahm 12/1
- Bryson Dechambeau 14/1
- Justin Thomas 14/1
