Scheffler retained his world number one ranking after another multi-win season on the PGA Tour. The 27-year-old won The Players at Sawgrass in March, a month after lifting the Phoenix Open title at Scottsdale. In the majors, he finished tied-second in the PGA Championship behind Brooks Koepka and third at the US Open, won by Wyndham Clark.
Scheffler’s fourballs partner from Whistling Straits Bryson DeChambeau has not made the 2023 team – the pair beat Tommy Fleetwood and Viktor Hovland 3&1 on the Saturday having tied with Jon Rahm and Hatton on the Friday. He did not play in either foursomes sessions in 2021 but is expected to partner Ryder Cup debutant Sam Burns this time around.
