Son of Frankel only finished fourth yet still caught the eye of ante-post punters.
The Dee Stakes may have been won by favourite Cliffs Of Moher, but it's not the Aidan O'Brien-trained Derby second favourite that Oddschecker users want to be on for the big one in June.
That honour instead goes to the eventual fourth in Friday's race, Mirage Dancer. The son of Frankel stayed on well in the home straight from an unpromising position to suggest that the step up to 1m4f at Epsom in June would be right up his street. In fact, 68% of bets placed on the Derby market in the aftermath of Friday's race were for the Sir Michael Stoute inmate at 33/1.
Intriguingly, there were also a number of bets for another Aidan O'Brien contender, one who hasn't been seen on the racecourse since October. Sir John Lavery received just over 16% of bets in the ante-post market in the hour after the Dee Stakes. Last seen winning a mile maiden at Gowran Park over a mile, the son of Galileo is a standout 16/1 with one bookie but as short as 9/1 with others. Punters will have the chance to gauge thier investment when the 3yo runs in Saturday's Derby Trial at Lingfield.
