40/1 shot Wings of Eagles surprises all to win Epsom Derby with storming finish.
While all the attention was on favourites Cracksman, ridden by Frankie Dettori, and Cliffs of Moher, ridden by Ryan Moore, it was Wings of Eagles who flew down the final furlong for an astonishing Derby win.
Moore edged Cliffs of Moher to the outside as punters began to celebrate the 5/1 shot landing but Wings Of Eagles. at a huge 40/1, swooped late to win on jockey Padraig Beggy's Derby debut.</p>
Favourite Cracksman finished third but looked beaten by Cliffs Of Moher before Wings Of Eagles' stunning display shocked the crowd. It was a sixth Derby success for trainer Aidan O'Brien, who had six runners in this year's race, but it wasn't the O'Brien horse many expected.

Winning jockey Padraig Beggy said: "That's my first ride, but when you're riding one for Aidan you don't worry about the price, they always have a chance. I had a bit of bad luck in running but probably got there at the right time in the end.
"A furlong down I thought if I get a run I'd win, I knew Ryan had gone, but in fairness to the big horse his best furlong is his last, which makes a big difference. I don't get to sit on many beasts like this at the races, so I'm going to enjoy it," added Beggy.
