Punters rush to back Ribchester

Punters rush to back Ribchester

Plenty think he is the banker of the festival but can the Godolphin hotshot live up to expectations?

The Sussex Stakes looks all set to be a fascinating clash; Ribchester or Churchill seems to be the question on the racing world’s lips. Both camps are speaking positively about their chances, but Churchill’s fourth last time out has obviously got Oddschecker punters worried.

The market might have the pair closely matched, Ribchester best price 11/10 and Churchill 2/1 in places, but taking a looking at the stakes paints a very different picture. In the last 7 days, Ribchester has accounted for just over 67% of stakes through Oddschecker, whilst only 13% have been placed on the Aidan O’Brien 3-year-old.

Perhaps of greater interest, the punting behaviour over the last 12 paints the Godolphin hotshot in even better light. Ribchester is the most popular selection once again with 80% of stakes, whilst Zelzal is now the second most punted bet with 8% of the money, and Churchill only accounts for a mere 5%.

So it seems like our punters have made their minds up – perhaps the forecast rain has been the deciding factor?
