Bristol De Mai's odds slashed for the King George & Gold Cup after an impressive Betfair Chase win

An incredible 57 length success at Haydock has seen punters pile money on the Grey for future success.

It was supposed to be a tight duel between three-time Betfair Chase winner Cue Card and Bristol De Mai. And even though Daryl Jacob’s mount went off favourite, no-one watching at Haydock would have expected what was to come.

Pushed on at five out, the Grey just kept going and going, leaving his rival miles behind to win by an incredible 57 lengths and possibly put Cue Card into retirement.

For the six-year old, the stage is now set for future success and Nigel Twiston-Davies must fancy his chances for the rest of the season after such a crushing display.

Starting the morning around 16/1 for the King George VI Chase, you can now get a best price of 8/1 for Bristol De Mai completing the second leg of the Triple Crown, something Cue Card himself did in 2015-16.

It’s no surprise to see a massive 92% of bets going on exactly that happening in the King George market and some bookies have been frightened enough to go as short as 5/1, which is Sizing John and Thistlecrack territory in the market.

It’s a similar story when it comes to the Gold Cup. 20/1 odds at the start of the morning have given way to a best price of 14/1, with some bookies going as short as 8’s. 88% of punters today have gone for the Gelding to evoke memories of fellow Grey Desert Orchid come March.

Oddschecker Spokesman George Elek: “The staying power of Bristol De Mai stunned everyone as Daryl Jacob kept him motoring all the way down the straight to win by a scarcely believable 57 lengths in the Betfair Chase. His performance caused bookies to slash his odds across the board and plenty of punters will have put their faith in him for big performances in both the King George VI Chase and the Cheltenham Gold Cup.”
