The Tom George seven-year-old has proven the most popular horse in the ante-post market
In what looks a traditionally tough handicap puzzle to solve, it’s Singlefarmpayment that Oddschecker punters have sided with for the Ladbrokes Trophy at Newbury on Saturday. In total, 15% of all ante-post bets on the race have been on second-season chaser who is now best-price 7/1 in the betting.
Sinnglefarmpayment was runner-up at the Cheltenham Festival in March when beaten a short head and returned to the Prestbury Park venue in October to again finish second this time to Cogry, who is also set to take his place in the 21-strong field at Newbury on Saturday.
Current favourite Total Recall is second in the list for trainer Willie Mullins at 11.67% followed by Harry Fry’s American in third on 11.56% of bets and Nicky Henderson’s Whisper next best with 9.2%.
There have been a number of large bets on the race throughout the week with plenty of support for 20/1 shot Cogry.
Oddschecker spokesperson George Elek: "Saturday's race looks another high class renewal of this famous handicap. Former Gold Cup winner Coneygree tops the weights which has allowed the majority of the field to carry eleven stone or less. Singlefarmpayment is one of those horses and 10-8 should be a really nice weight to carry in what is usually a real test of stamina."
