Willie Mullins has won the race six times in the last ten years and has the favourite Getabird.
Oddschecker punters believe Willie Mullins is capable of adding a seventh victory to his name in Saturday’s Grade 2 Novice Hurdle at Punchestown with 44% of all bets place on the ante-post market for his promising six-year-old GETABIRD, best priced at 4/5.
The talented bumper performer landed a maiden hurdle by seven lengths last month and is prominent in the betting for all the novice races at Cheltenham in March and is unbeaten on his three starts for the Irish champion trainer.
Mullins’ runner faces stiff competition at the top of the market from Supreme favourite Mengli Khan and the Gordon Elliott horse has proven popular too with 37% of Oddschecker punters baking the 7/4 shot. Already a Grade 1 winner this season, the imposing five-year-old will be looking to bounce back from his latest effort which saw him run out through the wings of the hurdle two out in another Grade 1 at Leopardstown over Christmas.
Value hunters have picked out Roaring Bull, best priced at 14/1, as the best of the rest with Mengli Khan’s stablemate attracting 10% of all bets since the market was formed.
Oddschecker spokesman George Elek: "This looks a heavyweight clash in the novice hurdle stakes between the two top Irish NH trainers. Whoever emerges victorious will no doubt will likely be cut to favouritism for their Cheltenham entries in March."
