Son of Superstar Frankel backed for Cheltenham Festival glory in March

Solo Saxophone looks to do over hurdles what his dad did on the flat.

Son of Frankel, Solo Saxophone, enhanced his growing reputation with last gasp victory at Wetherby on Tuesday and punters are now backing him for Triumph Hurdle glory.

A total of 21% of all ante-post bets on the race through Oddschecker in the last 24 hours are backing the four-year-old in March, and bookmakers have acted accordingly.

As big as 50/1 with some bookies just last week (January 19), as of today (January 24), Solo Saxophone is now as short as 25/1 in places.

The four-year-old switched trainers to join the Dan Skelton yard last year and has since made it two wins from two starts over hurdles, becoming Frankel’s first ever winner over obstacles in the process.

The Triumph is not the only Festival option for connections with one bookmaker also rating him 20/1 for the Fred Winter Juvenile Handicap Hurdle.

Oddschecker spokesperson George Elek: Whilst Frankel was never beaten on the flat, Solo Saxophone couldn't get in front in his five starts.

“A switch to hurdling and an allegiance with the masterful Dan Skelton has seen him take to winning just like his father, and could be a handy prospect for the Festival in March.”
