Floods of money in Australia has led to Aussie bookies cutting UK chances of victory.
Chris Wallers looks set to attempt to land Winx’s 23rd win in a row when the mighty mare races in the Chipping Norton Stakes at Royal Randwick this weekend.
The Cox Plate winner is just 1/12 to take the Group 1 in the early hours of Sunday morning and Oddschecker punters are pretty bullish about her chances - even at such a short price - with 65% of bets on the race being placed on Winx.
What has caught the eye, however, is the money being placed in Australia for the mare to win the Queen Anne Stakes at Royal Ascot.
Punters all over the UK want to see Winx come over to England and race against ‘proper horses’. A shoot-out between Australia’s star performer and Enable would be a promoters dream, and something bookies would love to see happen.
Sportsbet reported overnight that they had cut the odds of Winx winning the Queen Anne Stakes from 3/1 to 6/4 following a surge of betting on the race.
There’s been no such trimming of odds by UK bookies, as three of the bookmakers have Winx at 4/1. This may be set to change soon though, as 70% of bets placed through Oddschecker have been on the Aussie mare landing a UK win.
Oddschecker spokesperson George Elek said: “If Winx is to come over to the UK this summer the news would likely first filter out in Australia, so this movement should be noted.
“One thing is for sure; she will not be 4/1 should she line up at Ascot in June.”
