Joseph O’Brien gets his first Group 1 triumph in the UK as a trainer.
It was supposed to be a battle between Hermosa and Pretty Pollyanna but Iridessa didn’t read the script. Joseph O’Brien’s two-year-old surged clear to win the Fillies’ Mile at Newmarket and did so at a big price.
If you were on Oddschecker this morning and shopped around, you could have got the filly at best price 33/1, a far more juicier price than the 22/1 on offer elsewhere.
Her odds tumbled as the race edged nearer and she went off an SP of 14/1. It was still a handsome price for anyone on-board as Wayne Lordan got her ahead of the two favourites, who finished second and third respectively.
Never rule out Joseph O'Brien!

The win sparked interest in the betting for next year’s Oaks at Epsom, and she has been slashed into joint-favourite for the running in May 2019.
Iridessa is now 20/1 best price, with some bookmakers making her as short as 14/1 at the top of the market.
She is also 20/1 for next year’s 1000 Guineas, although O’Brien said in an interview after the race that she was ‘more of an Oaks Filly’.’
The 14/1 SP winner followed another big price winner in the 14.25, as Mot Juste came home at 12/1.
At 9am this morning, a £1 bet on those two at their best price would have netted you £615, compared to £338 worst price.
That’s why it pays to use Oddschecker!
Oddschecker Spokesman George Elek: “Iridessa caused a shock in the Fillies’ mile and went in from 40s to 14/1 SP before triumphing at Newmarket. Joseph O’Brien said she was an Oaks Filly immediately after winning his first Group 1 as a trainer and punters have been quick to take advantage of prices as bookies continue to cut her for future success, she’s now 20/1 best price.”
