Choosing the wrong bookie would have cost £342,148 off a £10 bet.
It was a fantastic day of live racing for ITV viewers on Saturday, and particularly enjoyable for the five lucky punters who successfully picked the winners from all seven races included in the ‘ITV 7’ competition.
The jackpot for the winners was a hefty £50,000. However, if the winners had placed their selections into a seven-fold accumulator, the outcome could have been dramatically different.
If the ITV 7 winners had placed a £10 bet on an accumulator with those selections with the wrong bookmaker, they would have won £342,148 less. Imagine what you could buy with that!
To put it into perspective, that is over ten times the £34,170 prize money for the Badger Ales Trophy Handicap Chase won by Present Man in the final race...
There were some standout performers throughout the day, with If You Say Run capping off a treble for Paul Nicholls’ yard and Bags Groove also justifying favouritism early on at Wincanton.
Royal Line was particularly impressive out-running a large field at Doncaster, while Verdana Blue stamped down her claims on the Champion Hurdle at Cheltenham when winning supremely at Wincanton shortly before. The quality day of racing was capped off by an exemplary round of jumping from Present Man, ridden brilliantly by Bryony Frost.
