Bookies BLOODBATH: British bookmakers suffer biggest ever Grand National loss on Tiger Roll

Tiger Roll made it back-to-back Grand National wins and left bookies with a headache.

British bookmakers have suffered their biggest ever loss on the Grand National, following Tiger Roll’s back-to-back victories.

The Gordon Elliot-trained nine-year-old was the most backed horse on Oddschecker every single day since it’s Cross Country win at Cheltenham.

Just the second horse since Red Rum to win back-to-back Grand Nationals, it’s believed to have cost bookmakers around £200m.

His popularity in the Grand National market peaked on the 13th March, where he received a mammoth 82.4% of all bets after winning the Cross Country and was cut from 12/1 to 5/1 favourite.

The only horse to come close to trumping last year’s champion was Anibale Fly and that was on Gold Cup day, where the JP McManus owned nine-year-old finished second in the Gold Cup and accrued 31.8% of bets, 7% more than Tiger Roll.

Tiger Roll is already as short as 6/1 to win next year's Grand National.

Oddschecker spokesperson George Elek: "Bookies will be tearing their hair out after that Grand National result. The short price on Tiger Roll didn't put punters off right up to the off, with money piling in for Gordon Elliott's history-maker for months.

"Rathvinden and Anibale Fly won't have helped the cause with their top six finishes."
