Today’s news means 31% of bets on the market will go down the drain.
Trainer John Gosden today confirmed that long-time 2000 Guineas favourite Too Darn Hot will miss this year’s race at Newmarket. As a result, 31% of ante-post bets on the market will be lost.
The three-year-old boasts a perfect record, winning all four of his starts as juvenile last year. He established himself at the top of the 2000 Guineas market after victory in the Group One Dewhurst Stakes at Newmarket in October.
Since then the bets have continued to pour in from punters, with the star colt going as short as the even money mark. However, that price began to drift after he missed his planned reappearance in the Greenham Stakes at Newbury through injury.
The new favourite for the 2000 Guineas is Ten Sovereigns, taking the place of Too Darn Hot yesterday as the latter’s price continued to drift amidst rumours.
Aiden O’Brien’s three-year-old has shortened to a best price of 10/3 and accrued 21% of bets on the market in the last 24 hours.
Oddschecker spokesperson George Elek: “This news comes just a couple of days after Almond Eye was ruled out of the Arc, so it’s not been a good week for ante-post punters, or fans hoping to see the stars of the sport participating in these events.”
