Shock jockey being backed to end Ryan Moore's Royal Ascot dominance

Despite being an overwhelming favourite, Moore isn’t fancied to win the title for a ninth time.

Ryan Moore has won the Top Jockey award eight of the last nine times at Royal Ascot, and the bookies have priced him up as a 10/11 favourite to land his ninth honour. However, punters are flocking to back James Doyle to end the Moore reign.

Doyle’s chances have been boosted by the injury to William Buick. The 31-year-old will have the pick of Charlie Appleby’s runners at the Festival, which include Barney Roy, Cross Counter, Masar and Blue Point.

Just eight days ago, Bet365 were offering a mouth-watering 12/1 for Doyle to steal Moore’s crown, however the bookies have been quick to cut the odds. He can now be backed at 5/1 with a handful of bookmakers on Oddschecker.

Despite the odds being slashed, the punters keep pouring their money into the Appleby’s man. A massive 46% of bets this morning have been on James Doyle being Top Jockey, which is considerably more than Ryan Moore, who accounted for just 12% of bets.
