The Italian Stallion has had his odds cut in half following his win on Stradivarius
British bookies have slashed odds on Italian-born Frankie Dettori winning the BBC Sports Personality of the Year award, following a sparkling year for the jockey.
Dettori’s odds have been cut in half, from 50/1 into 25/1, following his win on Stradivarius at Glorious Goodwood today.
That’s due to an influx of bets on the 48-year-old scooping the prize, with 55% of all bets in the last 24 hours backing the Royal Ascot hero.
Dettori almost eclipsed his seven winners from seven races at Ascot in 1996 with a bookie-bashing effort at this year’s Royal Ascot.
Horse racing’s man of the moment placed at the SPOTY awards in 1996, coming third behind Steve Redgrave and Damon Hill.
Elsewhere, England Cricket saviour Ben Stokes is the clear favourite to win the award at 11/8, following his dramatic performances at the Cricket World Cup.
F1 driver Lewis Hamilton is the second-favourite at 8/1, followed by Raheem Sterling (12/1), Joe Root (16/1) and Dina Asher-Smith (22/1)
Oddschecker spokesperson Callum Wilson: “Frankie still producing winners at 48-years-young is just remarkable.
"He had British bookmakers reeling when he magically produced four wins from four on the Thursday of Royal Ascot, and it's hard to think of a better ambassador for the sport of horse racing.
"However, after the Cricket World Cup heroics and with the Ashes around the corner, it's difficult to envisage a winner of the award being outside of the English Cricket team."
