We take a closer look at the horses moving in the markets across the UK and Ireland today.
First up, is IRONCLAD in the 16:15 at Kempton, who was 13/8 this morning but is now a best price of 11/10. This son of Dubawi has been successful over 1m2f, including landing a decent handicap at the July Festival at Newmarket last month. He won comfortably that day and whilst he has been given a 5lb raise for that effort, that shouldn’t be too big an issue.The step up in trip to 1m 4f looks to suit and James Doyle’s ride should have too much for his rivals here.
Secondly, MATEWAN in the 17:00 at Ripon who was 5/1 at opening, but now can be found as short as 9/4, with a best price of 11/4. Whilst he has not been at his best this year, his last two runs have shown encouragement that he could be finding similar form to last year where he landed two strong handicaps. He is dropping back in class today and P J McDonald has been operating at a handy strike rate so punters will be hopeful that the Ian Williams trained four-year-old can get his nose in front for the first time this year.
Finally, DRUIM SAMHRRAIDH at Cork in the 17:20 this evening is now a best price of 7/4, having been 4/1 earlier in the day. This is a rather interesting movement for this once raced six-year-old. He made his debut at Cork in July and came a respectable fourth of eighteen. He stayed on well at the end of that race and the extra 3f here will play into his hands. He was an unfancied 33/1 last time out so his run certainly caught a few people’s eyes. He will come on for that experience and punters have had a swell of bets throughout the day for the horse.
