A round-up of today's best-backed horses.
Firstly, COVERHAM at Yarmouth in the 17:20 has been well found in the market today. He was 9/2 earlier in the day and is now as short as 9/4 with a best price of 11/4. He runs at 7f today and that is his ideal trip, given 3 of his 4 wins have come at this distance. He is a bit of a Kempton specialist, on the all-weather, however he finds himself on turf today and will hope to give a good showing. He has been running well as of late, placing in his last two races, both at Newmarket. Punters will hope he can get his head in front today, with plenty of market support for the five-year-old.
QUOTE who is running in the 19:25 at Leopardstown has shortened from 2/1 into a best price of 10/11. This daughter of Galileo benefited from the step up to a 1m4f last month at the Curragh. Halimi who won that race by a neck went out and won again at Galway in a handicap, franking the form. On that form alone, Quote should have a lot in hand today and punters seem to think so too, with only odds-on available now. This Aidan O’Brien trained three-year-old should take all the beating and finally shed her maiden tag.
SCHEME running in the 19:35 at Newcastle who was 11/4 earlier in the betting, is now as short as 11/8 and a best price of 13/8. This three-year-old has not yet shown the promise of last season so far in her only run this year. However, it may have been simply to get to race fitness with future races in mind. Today is also a significant step up in trip which is certainly interesting. Trainer Sir Mark Prescott, who is operating at a fantastic 36% strike rate in the last two weeks, clearly sees something in the filly to bring her up in trip. This coupled with the in-form Luke Morris doing the steering means punters are hopeful of a strong run in Newcastle this evening.
