We reveal the most backed horses through Oddschecker on the first day of the St Leger Festival.
The first of the most backed horses is TIS MARVELLOUS who runs in the 15:00. He had a very unlucky run last time out where he found traffic at the crucial stage of the race and ended up staying on well at the end. Before that, he ran a fantastic race to finish second in the Wokingham handicap at Royal Ascot and followed that up with a brilliant victory at the same track next time out. Adam Kirby’s mount is in the best form of his career and his rivals arrive not at their best as of late. El Astronaute has to concede 3lb today and Tis Marvellous should have too much for him. Equilateral poses a danger but punters think Tis Marvellous will continue his fine form this season and score another victory this afternoon.
Next up is LITIGIOUS who runs in the 16:10. Her run at Salisbury last time out was rather disappointing where she finished a never nearer third. She was heavily fancied that day after two very impressive victories earlier in the season. Punters are clearly prepared to forgive John Godsen’s horse for that effort. She runs off the same mark today and if she can replicate the form of her previous two runs then she should have too much for her rivals. Punters have been getting their money down all day on Frankie Dettori’s ride and hope she can repay their faith.
The third and final most backed horse of the day runs in the 16:45. WILLIE JOHN has not been seen since Royal Ascot after a poor run. The soft ground won’t have suited him that day and Andrea Atzeni give him a very easy time of it after realising it wasn’t to be his day. Before that, he ran a very good second behind Elarqam, who has gone on to win two races this season, including a strong Group 2. More notably, however, he came third in the Juddmonte International behind Japan and Crystal Ocean – two very good horses. That form looks rather strong and punters are happy to put his last run behind him and fancy him here today. He is off a bit a break here which could help at this stage of the season. He was bought for a huge amount of money and if at his best should land this comfortably.
