We reveal the most backed horses at Newmarket today, in the Cesarewitch and Dewhurst Stakes.
One of a handful of three-year-olds to sneak into this race at the bottom of the weights, RANCH HAND comes up against some experienced types this afternoon. Andrew Balding’s gelding was last seen winning at Haydock when stepped up to 1m6f. Staying on strongly that day, plenty are expecting the further step up in trip to be beneficial today. That form was also given a boost yesterday with the second that day, Trueshan, winning the Old Rowley Cup Handicap convincingly.
The Cesarewitch is getting the most attention from punters today and the second most backed at Newmarket today goes in the same race. MR EVEREST is lightly raced this season, winning over hurdles back in August but seemingly aimed at a shot at this prize. A J Martin’s six-year-old saw off a field of 19 others at Naas last year and won at Listowel shortly before on testing ground. The Irish challenger has caught the eye of punters in this one.
It has been a magnificent campaign for Godolphin colt PINATUBO. Charlie Appleby’s star is unbeaten in his five starts, which include a listed race at Ascot, Group 2 at Goodwood and most recently a nine-length annihilation in the Group 1 National Stakes at the Curragh. The form of those races is rock solid coming into this and punters can’t see the challenge of Wichita and co. amounting to anything significant.
