Betting frenzy on Tiger Roll to win the Grand National proves fruitless

Tiger Roll has been denied his shot at history

With the Grand National cancelled due to coronavirus, the plethora of bets on Tiger Roll to make history are all void.

In the last six months, 23% of all bets for the race were on Tiger Roll.

This meant he had been backed into a strong favourite throughout the season.

Despite failing to win at Cheltenham, punters continued to back him for a hat-trick of Grand National’s, with a whopping 44% of bets on Gordon Elliott’s ten-year-old since last Thursday.

The Gigginstown runner looked primed for a historic tilt at Aintree and excitement was building to palpable levels in the lead up to the race.

Sadly, Tiger Roll will be denied his chance to write himself into folklore this year, but Gordon Elliott remains optimistic he could have a tilt at the 2021 renewal.

Upon hearing the news of the cancellation, he said, “There's every chance of Tiger Roll competing next year. He doesn't have many miles on the clock.”

“We'll be training him back for the Grand National again and I'll be taking it day by day. There's a lot of water to go under the bridge between now and then. We'll be keeping our head up and keeping him going.

"All we can do is dream. You never know what can happen. He's in good form and was all set for the National. But we're only one of 40 horses and we just have to keep going."

He is a current 20/1 shot for the Grand National next year, punters will be hoping he can he kept fit and finally have his shot at history.
