The Derby hopeful was far from his best this afternoon
As short as 6/1 before the King Edward VII Stakes today at Royal Ascot, Mogul finds himself on the drift to as big as 14/1 for the Derby following an under par display.
The Aidan O’Brien runner travelled well throughout the early stages of the race and as they came round the bend looked set to make a late charge.
However, he failed to land a blow and ended finishing in fourth. In turn, he was pushed out by bookies, with the front three in the market being slightly shortened by firms.
English King and Kameko are both vying for favouritism, with several bookies unable to split the pair.
9/2 was available on English King, but bookies have clipped that price in and he is now as short as 10/3.
Military March is the third-favourite and has also been clipped in by some bookies. 6/1 is still available on the Godolphin runner though.
Oddschecker spokesperson Callum Wilson: “There was a lot of hype around Mogul and he has failed to deliver on this occasion. However, you would be brave to completely write off the Aidan O’Brien runner for the Derby.”
“The front three now look unrivalled in the market, and will surely stay at the top of the market should they all turn up to Epsom next month.”
