Adam Kirby’s mount triumphed in the Coventry Stakes
Nando Perrado has replaced Fox Chapel as the biggest-priced winner that Royal Ascot has ever seen.
The Clive Cox-trained shot attracted just 0.4% of all bets in the race, but won the Coventry Stakes at a whopping 150/1.
That means the Adam Kirby-ridden horse overtakes Fox Chapel’s (1990) 100/1 winner alongside Gary Hind.
Flashman Papers also managed a 100/1 victory ridden by Steve Drowne in 2008, with the next biggest winners a cluster off 66/1 shots Amfortas, Cosmic Sun and Night of Wind.
Nando Parrado's jockey Adam Kirbyreacted after the victory: "It's great to win - full credit to Clive.
"He is tough and hung in there. He had to be brave and he is a gutsy horse.
"We liked him before he ran first time but he didn't handle Newmarket and obviously the track and ground here has helped him and he has toughed it out."
Oddschecker spokesperson Callum Wilson: “Very few can possibly have seen that coming, as Nando Parrado won the Coventry emphatically for Clive Cox and Adam Kirby.
“He was 50/1 this morning, but drifted to 150/1 throughout the day. Incredibly, one oddschecker user had £20 on him at 150/1.”
