The star stayer is now as short as 12/1 for the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe
Stradivarius has been cut into as short as 12/1 for the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe after John Gosden confirmed that was the target for the superstar stayer.
As big as 33/1 for the race before today’s victory, bookmakers were quick to slash the six-year-olds odds after John Gosden revealed his plans.
Plenty of firms make him a 14/1 chance, with one bookmaker a standout 20/1.
This was shortly after Stradivarius won a record breaking fourth Goodwood Cup in tremendous fashion under Frankie Dettori.
With two furlongs to go, the three time Gold Cup winner looked short of room, but once given a clear passage through, Stradivarius flew home to make history.
Trading as high as 5/2 in running, at one stage it looked like he would have to give away his crown, but he showed why he is the very best, quickening clear of his rivals.
When asked for future plans in the post-race interview, John Gosden said his owner, Mr Neilsen, wanted to go for the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe.
Firstly, they will keep Stradivarius fresh until the Prix Foy, in September, before a crack at the Arc in October.
The Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe is shaping up to be one of the races of the season, with Enable (3/1) and Love (3/1) currently at the top of the market, vying for favouritism.
Stradivarius brings a new dimension to what should be a thrilling race.
Frankie Dettori could have a hard decision to make…
