Betfair Exchange Free Bet Streak: Our tipsters look at the opener of the Yorkshire Ebor Festival

It’s back! Well in truth it never went away. The Betfair Exchange Free Bet Streak is here once again, this time for the York Ebor Festival, one of our favourite meetings of the season.

If you aren’t familiar with how the offer works then firstly where have you been? And secondly the good news is all you need to do is stake £20 on the 1:45 on Wednesday at York and once the bet has settled, you’ll get a £20 free bet on the Betfair Exchange. It’s open for both new and existing customers.

And it doesn’t stop there, if you win with your free bet, you’ll receive another free bet the next day. Back another winner the following day and get another free bet. Back another winner the next day after that and yeah, you get the picture by now.

Andy Holding, oddschecker columnist

Magic J, £20 win (13:45 York)

Speaking on the oddschecker Betting Podcast, previewing day one of York Andy said:

“I’ve got a soft spot and am a sucker for a horse call MAGIC J. I tipped him last time out at Ascot but Oisin Murphy took him out to the front to my horror and it’s a front-runner’s graveyard at Ascot. In the cold light of day he didn’t run too badly and the horses that finished ahead of him have gone on to boost their form lines.

You can forget that run at Ascot, it just wasn’t him. He does travel well and he’s drawn right in the middle so I’d give him another go here. He’s certainly better than we saw at Ascot and he could prove he’s a progressive sprinter here.”

Daryl Carter, oddschecker tipster

Magic J, £20 win (13:45 York)

MAGIC J wasn’t seen to best effect last time at Ascot when doing too much too soon and can be forgiven that effort given how well he won at Sandown. He still looks well handicapped off this mark of 96 and connections switch out the cheek-pieces for the blinkers to sharpen him up. He is drawn down the centre and next door to the pace angle in the race and will get a good tow into the race and should be good enough to put it to bed.

Ed Quigley, horse racing journalist

Arecibo, £10 e/w (13:45 York)

ARECIBO has been a frustrating character over the last year or so, but has performed well in defeat on more than one occasion. That would include this contest 12 months ago, when finishing a close-up third off a mark of 98. Arriving into this contest off a 4lb lower mark, he is handicapped to go well, and the David O’Meara representative looks a solid each-way player.

Ryan Summerfield, horse racing tipster

Arecibo, £10 e/w (13:45 York)

My selection in the 1.45pm at York is ARECIBO. He’s been somewhat disappointing this season having been sent off favourite for similar races earlier in the year but I think this race falls just right for him. He needs luck in running as he flies from the back of the field so this 5.5f trip should suit perfectly given his eye-catching finishes over 5f trips. Any rain would not be a problem and York suits too. He was 3rd in this race last season beaten just 0.75L off a mark of 98 and he returns a year later off 94. Makanah who finished just behind Arecibo last year is now 12lb worse off but a similar price to him for this race. He was 5th here a few runs back when again unlucky in running but he gets a weight swing in his favour against 3 of the horses that finished ahead of him.

He was also behind Jawwaal at Ascot three runs back but the front three that day were drawn 18/19/20 and Aricebo was drawn on the wrong side of the track in stall 3, he was still making late headway as per usual he just had no chance from that side of the track. He needs things to fall right for him but the handicapper has given him a chance off 94 and it wouldn’t surprise me if David O’Meara has had his eye on this race for most of the year. At a double figure price and extra places on offer he rates a solid each-way bet to reach the frame at a minimum.

Alex Keating, Commercial Manager

Copper Knight, £20 win (13:45 York)

Another tricky qualifying race for the Free Bet streak offer can go to the hardened sprinter and multiple course COPPER KNIGHT  for Tim Easterby. Winning over course and half a furlong shorter last season off 106 before finishing an honourable 5th behind Battaash in the Nunthorpe off that same mark would suggest that an ever-sliding mark of 100 could be lenient. Even on this season’s form, Copper Knight was a short head second off 102 in a similar race at Newmarket on seasonal reappearance and having gone up in the handicap on the back of that, is now back down to the mark which saw him win over 5f at this track last May. A draw in the middle of the track suits – a good chance for a sprinter with bags of experience in these sort of fields.

Sam Farley, US Content and Marketing Manager

Only Spoofing, £20 win (13:45 York)

For the BetFair Exchange Free Bet Streak I’m backing ONLY SPOOFING. Lovely win at Goodwood in his last race and jockey Kieran O'Neill will be back again for the festival opener. He’ll face some familiar opposition today, indeed beating a couple of them in that previous race. I think this is a tough race to call so I’m going to ride the hot hand.

Exchange back bets on the ‘win’ market only, min odds 1.5. £20 free bet awarded at bet(s) settlement. ‘Free Bet streak’ bets will be equal to the winning free bet stake from the previous day, awarded at 12pm the following day, valid for 72 hours. T&Cs apply.
