Day 2: Tips and Insight for Each Race

Ballymore Novices’ Hurdle

Day 2 of the Cheltenham Festival kicks off with the Ballymore where the heavily fancied Sir Gerhard leads the way. The seven-year-old is the current odds-on-favourite to romp home in the day's opening race and it is being touted as a comfortable win for trainer Willie Mullins. Our racing expert Stu Williams has also tipped Sir Gerhard to be the first past the post on Wednesday.

He wrote: “SIR GERHARD looks a cut above his remaining rivals. This race often develops into a sprint and last season’s Champion Bumper hero is by far the quickest horse in this race, yet he still possessed the stamina to land an Irish point-to-point and is therefore prepared for anything that his opposition throws at him.”

Brown Advisory Novices’ Chase

The next race on the card is the Brown Advisory which will see a strong field face off against each other. The current favourite is Bravemansgame in the market, but L’Homme Presse has taken the most bets in the market through oddschecker (28%).

Our horse racing expert Stu Williams fancies the favourite to come out on top: “The one horse who seems certain to line-up with no questions to answer is Bravemansgame, boasting a very solid profile having twice triumphed over vastly more experienced opposition in addition to scoring at Grade 1 level and in handicap company from a mark of 159.”

Coral Cup

Next up we have the first handicap race of the day with a 28-strong field for the Coral Cup. The market is split with almost five horses between 9/1 and 7/1 but one thing to note is the each-way places available. The current leaders are Sky Bet who are offering eight places for this race; with such a big field and no outright favourite having those extra places could prove to be key.

Betway Queen Mother Champion Chase

Wednesday's feature race is the Champion Chase involving some heavyweights in the field with the likes of Nube Negra, Envoi Allen, Chacun Pour Soi and one of the most interesting of clashes between Willie Mullins’ Energumene and Nicky Henderson’s Shishkin.

These two have already met this year at Ascot for the Clarence House Chase where Shishkin pulled off an amazing comeback to catch Energumene at the very last. Due to this win Shishkin is the odds-on-favourite for all bookies, while Energumene is second in the market and can be found at 7/2.

However, you can still get 20/1 for Shishkin to finish top three in the Champion Chase if you fancy Energumene to pip him to the post this time around.

Glenfarclas Chase

The next race up involves racing royalty in the form of Tiger Roll, who has won five times at Cheltenham and this particular race three times. It has been confirmed that the 12-year-old will retire after this meeting. The Gordon Elliott trained horse is the current favourite in the market and it would be a fairytale finish for one of the greatest horses in modern history.

Grand Annual Challenge Cup Handicap Chase

The penultimate race of the day is wide-open again with 21 runners taking place. Last year's winner Sky Pirate has slipped down the market and can be seen with some huge price differential with best odds of 16/1 and worst odds of 11/1.

You could win £50 more for a Sky Pirate win if you bet with oddschecker - the only tip you need this Cheltenham. (*based on a £10 stake)

Champion Bumper

And finally it's the Champion Bumper in which favourite Facile Vega is looking to make it three wins from three in his career. This race screams each-way place because it could be closer than people expect.
