Grand National 2022 Odds: Tiger Roll passes the baton to Delta Work

Grand National 2022 Odds: Tiger Roll passes the baton to Delta Work

Architect Tips reflects on the fairytale that never was for Tiger Roll but thinks his stablemate and Cheltenham conqueror is worth a look for the Grand National 2022.

It wasn’t the fairytale story ending everyone had hoped for in the Cross Country Chase at Cheltenham as Tiger Roll was overhauled in the latter stages by stablemate Delta Work.

The two-time Grand National winner and five-time Festival winner ran an absolute blinder on ground he wouldn’t have liked and bowed out with an excellent effort in defeat.

He deserves every bit of recognition for everything he has done in the sport but Delta Work was brilliant on the day last week. His performance can be upgraded given it was his first attempt over the distance and unique obstacles.

The five-time Grade 1 winner jumped and travelled well throughout, proving stamina is very much his strong suit. The impressive victory has seen him earn quotes of just 10/1 for the world’s greatest steeplechase, the Grand National, as joint-favourite alongside Any Second Now.

He’s a massive player if he is able to continue his new lease of life at Aintree next month as he bids to follow in the footsteps of the legendary Tiger Roll, who has certainly passed the baton onto him for Gigginstown stud.

After the latest stage of the weights for the Grand National 2022 were unveiled, the Gordon Elliott-trained duo Galvin and Conflated were scratched from the field following their runs at last week's Cheltenham Festival and are likely to be saved for Punchestown, while Run Wild Fred - second in the National Hunt Chase - is currently available at 22/1 and is sure to be popular among punters.

Mount Ida went into the Mares’ Chase as one of the leading contenders but ultimately disappointed and that has seen her drift out to 25/1 for the Grand National 2022. She’ll need to bounce back and improve in the jumping department if she’s to make an impact in her toughest test yet next month.

Of the British-trained possible runners, the consistent Fiddlerontheroof has been popular in recent weeks for Aintree and has shortened into 20/1. He’s unproven at the trip but certainly a fascinating addition to the race if connections do opt to go this route with him and he’s a leading player if the longer trip can yield any sort of improvement.
