One of the most intriguing battles at Royal Ascot is who will be top jockey and, as ever, Frankie Dettori and Ryan Moore will no doubt have a huge say in the final standings.
As far as 'bankers' are concerned, none of the pair have any particular standouts, although you could argue BAY BRIDGE (7/4) provides Moore with his best chance in the Princess Of Wales' Stakes.
Moore will also have the choice of riding the pick of the Ballydoyle battalions, which will include a collection of their best two-year-olds, but then again, the Italian maestro will have the benefit of getting the call from his old pal Wesley Ward in that department.
Looking at the fringe races which could make the difference on the week, Moore will no doubt have plenty of powerful ammunition in the handicaps, mainly from Aidan O'Brien, and he's often been used by Willie Mullins in some of the staying races.
Talking of long-distance affairs, Dettori will have his old friend Stradivarius as a strong fancy in the Gold Cup, and no doubt Dermot Weld will be keen to gain his services for Falcon Eight in the final race of the meeting. Away from the big two in the market, Tom Marquand could be worth considering at a bigger price as he will be aboard most saddled from the in-form William Haggas stable.
The likes of Maljoom, My Astra, Sacred, Gaasee, Addeybb, Sense Of Duty, Hamish and Dubai Honour will all have a chance in their respective races and, along with a few more likely decent outside rides, the 24-year-old has a strong portfolio for the five-day meeting.
