Frankie Dettori to Ride a Winner on Day 1?
The Italian jockey has been leading jockey at the festival seven times, most recently in 2019. On Ladies Day in that year, Dettori rode a four-timer – a feat last achieved by Lester Piggott in 1965.
Dettori is also synonymous with Ascot for the 'magnificent seven' in 1996, when he won all seven races in a single card during British Champions’ Day.
Going into next week, he has a number of highly fancied mounts as he prepares for the occasion for the final time as a rider. These are set to include Inspiral in the Queen Anne Stakes (15/8) and Chaldean (best price 9/4) in the St James’s Palace Stakes on Tuesday.
