Ultima Handicap Chase Betting Tips: Meetingofthewaters in just 8% of winner bets

Willie Mullins’ main hope for the Ultima is surprisingly unfancied by the oddschecker community.

The Ultima Handicap Chase is the first handicap of the 2024 Cheltenham Festival, taking place after the Supreme and Arkle.

Last year’s renewal was a vintage one with winner Corach Rambler going on to win the Grand National with 2nd placed Fastorslow also following up in a Grade 1 at Punchestown.

Corach Rambler became the fourth horse to win back to back renewals joining Un Temps Pour Tour, Scot Lane and Sentina.

Recently it has been a race where the Irish have struggled with them winless in it since 2007 where Joes Edge ran to victory under a Davy Russell ride for the late Ferdy Murphy.

Meetingofthewaters 8.0

Meetingofthewaters, a 7/1 chance trained by Willie Mullins, was a winner of back-to-back races towards the end of last year, including when he returned a smooth winner of the Paddy Power Chase at Leopardstown.

The seven-year-old got no further than the first fence last time out, but his mark is only two pounds higher, and Willie Mullins has had this race in mind for him. He could run very well, but for all that, his odds seem short in a race historically as competitive as this.

Looking at the latest betting it appears that the price has deterred punters through oddschecker, with only 8% of the race winner bets going the way of Meetingofthewaters since declarations on Sunday.
