The second most backed horse for the Cheltenham Gold Cup has been withdrawn.
Concerns over his stable form has led trainer Nicky Henderson to withdraw several of his runners from the remainder of the Cheltenham Festival, including Champion Chase contender Jonbon and Shishkin, well fancied in the Cheltenham Gold Cup.
Shishkin looked very unlucky in the King George when a freak departure at the second last fence cost him the race, having looked to be motoring on the front end.
The 10-year-old made amends in good style in the Denman Chase and was expected to like the extra yardage in the Festival’s blue riband event on Friday, previewed here by Architect Tips.

However, we now know that Shishkin will not battle it out with defending champion Galopin Des Champs (6/5 favourite on William Hill), the only horse to have taken more ante-post bets through oddschecker than Shishkin since the start of 2024.
