Aintree Bowl Chase Tips: Gerri Colombe leads betting for 2:55 on Thursday

Gerri Colombe has been backed to win the grade 1 Bowl at Aintree.

The Aintree Bowl Chase headlines the first day of the Aintree 2024 festival as seven top chasers go head to head in one of the most hotly contested grade 1 races of the year.

This race is very popular with Cheltenham Gold Cup runners, with 11 of the last 20 winners being produced from this race.

This may well be a positive for Godon Elliot's favourite Gerri Colombe who finished second in the Cheltenham Gold Cup this year and has been given a 33% chance to win the Aintree Bowl today at a best price of 2/1 at various bookmakers.

Further weight can be added to Gerri Colombe's prospects in this race when considering the fact that favourites have won this race in six of the last eight renewals.

Nicky Henderson will be hoping this won't be the case as Shishkin races as second favourite at a best price of 11/4.

Henderson is one of two trainers to have multiple wins in the Bowl Chase (two wins), the other trainer being Paul Nicholls who has five winners.

Nicholls has trained the fourth favourite Bravemansgame who currently has a best price of 10/1.

The table above shows the percentage of bets made through oddschecker on potential winners of the Aintree Bowl Chase.

Gerri Colombe seems to be a worthy favourite following his admirable display at the Cheltenham Gold Cup this year which gives him the best form of the field going into this race.

He came second at Cheltenham the year before and went on to win the Mildmay Novices Chase here at Aintree that year, connections will be hoping he can follow the same pattern today.

This horse seems to be coming into its peak while its main opponents might just be slightly past it, if it is fit from its last run and can repeat the performance from last time then he will take all the beating.
