Ayr Gold Cup Winners

Significantly (20/1 to defend his title on William Hill) under Joe Fanning for Julie Camacho was the winner of the Ayr Gold Cup 2023, holding off a field including the reopposing Ramazan and Albasheer. Two years ago it was Summerghand who took the spoils from Commanche Falls. Both can be backed to win this time around at 33/1 on bet365.

Ayr Gold Cup Tips

Steve Ryder sided with Albasheer at 16/1 as part of his weekly ante-post tips for subscribers to Oddschecker Unlimited. You can read the article in full here.

Watching back the race, said Ryder, Albasheer was unlucky not to win given that he was slowly away before flying home at the finish over the six furlong trip.

Interestingly, Hollie Doyle reported that he was ‘outpaced in the early stages’ which is surprising given his form figures of 19212 over 5f since.

Before finishing 4th in the Portland Handicap at the St Leger Festival, he stayed on strongly over the minimum trip to finish a nose 2nd in the listed Beverley Bullet Stakes behind Democracy Dilemma shaping like this step back up in trip would suit.

The handicapper has raised Albasheer for that run up to a mark of 105 meaning that he would run in this race 4lbs “well in” at the weights off a mark of 101 this year. That is only 1lb higher than in 2023 and he arguably comes into the race in better form than last year.
