The Welsh Grand National is one of the highlights of the festive racing calendar.
Boxing Day might be the biggest day of the festive period for racing in Britain and Ireland, with 11 meetings including a blockbuster card at Kempton featuring the King George.
However, Chepstow’s moment in the spotlight comes just a day later with the Welsh Grand National 2024. 22 runners remained after Saturday’s confirmation stage including market leader Monbeg Genius – final declarations for the race must be made by 10am on Boxing Day.

The supporting cast includes 2021 winner and last year’s third place finisher Iwilldoit (12/1) and Jubilee Express (9/1 BetMGM), both inside the market’s top six for trainer Sam Thomas.
Last year’s second Iron Bridge (also for the O’Neills) is 12/1, while 2023 winner Nassalam – a 23-length winner 12 months ago - will not attempt to defend his crown.
Meanwhile, Dan Skelton is expected to run the well-fancied Galia des Liteaux (6/1) , while the Irish could have interesting entries in Where It All Began (15/2) and Stuzzikini (16/1), both trained by Gordon Elliott.
There is a maximum field of 20 for the Welsh Grand National, meaning we need to lose at least two when final declarations are made on Boxing Day.

Steve Ryder’s ante-post selection for this race was WHERE IT ALL BEGAN, who bids to become the first Irish trained winner since Raz De Maree in 2017.
Tipped at 16/1 for Oddschecker Unlimited but now into a best price 15/2 on BetMGM, Where It All Began was an impressive 16 length winner on heavy ground at Punchestown in the listed Grand National Trial off a mark of 123 before finishing 4th at the Cheltenham Festival behind Inothewayurthinkin in the Kim Muir despite being hampered at the second last fence.
BetMGM UK
His eighth placed finish can be excused in the Irish Grand National on his final start last season as he jumped poorly throughout that contest and he would be a fascinating contender if running here on his reappearance.
