Breeders' Cup Classic 2025 Runners Guide
SOVEREIGNTY- BILL MOTT/JUNIOR ALVARADO
Bill Mott trained colt who has won his previous four starts. The three-year-old beat Journalism in both the Kentucky Derby and Belmont Stakes before winning the Jim Dandy Stakes at Saratoga. He put in a career best performance last time winning the Travers Stakes by ten lengths and is a worthy favourite from Stall 6.
SIERRA LEONE- CHAD BROWN/ FLAVIEN PRAT
Last year’s winner who is ridden from the rear in his races so Stall 7 will be no concern to him. The Chad Brown trained four-year-old won the Whitney Stakes at Saratoga in August before getting badly hampered by an unseated rider early on in the Gold Cup Stakes last time when a closing 2nd place. His season will no doubt have been geared around a repeat bid in this race and he should hold strong claims if not getting too far back.
FIERCENESS- TODD PLETCHER/ JOHN VELAZQUEZ
The Todd Pletcher trained four-year-old finished runner-up in this race last season behind Sierra Leone having beaten him in his previous two races. He could only finish 5th behind that rival in the Whitney Stakes but then beat Journalism in the Pacific Classic last time by 3 ¼ lengths. He won that race from Stall 1 which is the same draw as he has in this race.
FOREVER YOUNG- YOSHITO YAHAGI/ RYUSEI SAKAI
Japanese raider who finished 3rd in this race last season behind Sierra Leone and Fierceness. He won a Grade 1 in Japan in December before beating Romantic Warrior in the Saudi Cup in February. The four-year-old could only finish 3rd in the Dubai World Cup but is well drawn in Stall 5.
MINDFRAME- TODD PLETCHER/ IRAD ORTIZ JR
Todd Pletcher trained four-year-old who has won two Grade 1s this season at Churchill Downs. He beat Sierra Leone by a length in the Stephen Foster Stakes before unseating his jockey when hampered in the Gold Cup Stakes at Saratoga last time.
Breeders Cup Classic Trainers & Jockeys To Watch
Bob Baffert has won this race four times recently with Bayern (2014), American Pharoah (2015), Arrogate (2016) and Authentic (2020).
Flavien Prat (Sierra Leone in 2024 and Flightline in 2022), Irad Ortiz Jr (White Abarrio in 2023 and Vino Rosso in 2019) and Joel Rosario (Knicks Go in 2021 and Accelerate in 2018) have all won this race twice recently.

Betting Insights for the Breeders Cup Classic
66% of all bets on Oddschecker in this race have been for the favourite Sovereignty and he looks a worthy favourite to win his fifth race in a row. He now races his elders for the first time and I am willing to take a chance on FIERCENESS (best priced at 11/2) who beat Sovereignty’s old rival Journalism by 3 ¼ lengths in the Pacific Classic Stakes last time over this course and distance.
Fierceness finished 2nd in this race last season behind Sierra Leone but can go one better this year from Stall 1.
Recommended bet: Fierceness (0.5pts each-way) @ 11/2
