Rising Stars Novices Chase Runners Guide

BLUEKING D’OROUX
Paul Nicholls trained six-year-old who is rated 151 over hurdles having won the bet365 Select Hurdle on his final start last season. He was beaten ¾ length by the 139 rated Riskintheground on his chasing debut at Newton Abbot a month ago when sent off 2/9 when in receipt of nearly a stone. He will need to step forward from that effort but is deserving of respect for this stable.

COBRA QUEEN
Henry De Bromhead has been targeting a few UK races early this season and this six-year-old mare is worthy of taking her chance in this Grade 2. She is also entered in the Badger Beers Handicap Chase on this card but this looks a more winnable contest. She has won her previous two starts by 6 ½ lengths and 8 ½ lengths and arrives in good form.

DOUBLE POWERFUL
Won six races in a row last year improving from a mark of 76 up to 121 when 2nd at Ascot in a handicap hurdle. The Neil Mulholland trained six-year-old has run well to finish 3rd on his next three starts including on his chasing debut at Cheltenham last time and is deserving of his rating of 136.

ART OF DIPLOMACY
Has the choice of five entries on both Friday and Saturday but is a shorter price in this than any of the other contests. The Mickey Bowen trained nine-year-old is an experienced chaser with a record of 5/13 over fences but needs to bounce back from a final flight fall last time at Chepstow when leading.

DOYEN QUEST
Another horse with three entries over this weekend including the Silver Bowl Novices’ Chase at Exeter on Friday. The Dan Skelton trained seven-year-old was beaten at 8/13 at Chepstow a month ago over fences when trying to make all in a four-runner contest. He has shown his best form on quick ground.

Betting Insights for the Rising Stars Novices' Chase

This looks a weak renewal of this race and many of the potential runners have alternative options this weekend. COBRA QUEEN (best priced at 3/1) is one of those who also has the option of running in the Badger Beers Handicap Chase but she is more likely to run here. She hits many of the trends and represents a stable who have started the season well with a 27% strike rate in the previous two weeks and is 1-6 (with 3 places) with runners in the UK this season.

Cobra Queen has won her previous two starts over fences by 6 ½ lengths and 8 ½ lengths and although this represents a step up in class, she could upset the favourite Blueking D’Oroux who needs to step forward from a disappointing chasing debut last time.

Blueking d'Oroux is certainly dominating the bets amongst Oddschecker punters, taking 80% of all ante-post bets placed through our platform.

Recommended bet: COBRA QUEEN 3/1 (1pt win)
