Betfair Exchange Handicap Chase Runners Guide

BOOSTER BOB

Progressive seven-year-old who ended last season with a victory at Newbury beating Vincenzo before winning in impressive style at the same track on his return. The handicapper has raised him 7lbs for that 4 ½ length success and he will be a leading contender if replicating that form on his first run at Cheltenham.

JUST OVER LAND

Sam Thomas trained six-year-old who has won both of his starts this season. He won at Fontwell in November before following up a month later at Chepstow by ½ length off a mark of 114. The handicapper has raised him 6lbs for that victory up to a mark of 120 but he is likely to have to run “out of the handicap” with the 156 rated Jungle Boogie set to take his chance.

GLENGOULY

Won the December Gold Cup over this course and distance from 7lbs “out of the handicap” under a clever front running ride from Sean Bowen. The ten-year-old runs here in theory off only a 3lb higher mark but would have a good chance if being able to dictate once again.

TWINJETS

Paul Nicholls trained eight-year-old who has won both of his starts this season. He beat Etalon, who has won since, on his reappearance at Fontwell before following up at Newbury winning by 10 lengths off a mark of 141. He runs here off only a 7lb higher mark but Harry Cobden appears to have chosen to ride him over Il Ridoto which is a positive for his chances.

JUNGLE BOOGIE

Veteran who makes his stable debut for Venetia Williams having transferred from Henry De Bromhead at the end of last season having pulled up in the Ryanair Chase. The twelve-year-old has an impressive record of 5 wins from 8 starts but this will be a tough task off a rating of 156.

RISKINTHEGROUND

Dan Skelton trained nine-year-old who beat subsequent Grade 2 novice chase winner Blueking D’Oroux at Newton Abbot in October giving that rival weight. He appeared to find 3m2f too far behind stablemate Panic Attack in the Coral Gold Cup last time and he should be suited by this drop in trip and return to Cheltenham having won over this course and distance in April.

IL RIDOTO

A regular in these Cheltenham handicap chases but has been slightly below form in both the Paddy Power Gold Cup and December Gold Cup. The nine-year-old is starting to look well handicapped off a mark of 139 with Freddie Keighley claiming a handy 7lbs.

Betting Tips for the Betfair Exchange Handicap Chase

Dan and Harry Skelton have combined to win this race twice since 2020 and they look to hold strong claims with RISKINTHEGROUND (best priced at 10/1) this year. The nine-year-old fits the trends highlighted above and can defy a career high mark of 145. He beat Blueking D’Oroux at Newton Abbot in October giving the subsequent Grade 2 winner weight before finding 3m2f too far at Newbury last time.

Riskintheground won the Grade 2 Silver Trophy Handicap Chase over this course and distance in April off a mark of 137 before running well to finish 4th in the Summer Plate at Market Rasen off a mark of 139. He looks overpriced at current odds.

Recommended Bet: Riskintheground 8/1 (0.5pt ew)
