We preview the Tattersalls Sceptre Sessions Cheveley Park Stakes at Newmarket this Saturday.
The Group 1 returns to the Rowley Mile on Saturday 26 September as part of Cambridgeshire Meeting Day 3, with the Cheveley Park due off at 14:27.
It is a 6f set-weights contest for two-year-old fillies only, with £275,000 guaranteed and first prize of around £155,952.
Eight fillies stood their ground at the five-day stage. Current cards have the going Good, good to firm in places. Coverage is on ITV and Racing TV. Final declarations and jockey bookings are still to come, and Alwaysanangel and Snowing both hold other engagements that could cut the field further.

This is often a clash of proven Group fillies rather than a speculative handicap puzzle. Recent winners include True Love (2/1 favourite) in 2025 and Lake Victoria (6/4 favourite) in 2024, both for Aidan O’Brien.

Sun Goddess
Aidan O’Brien’s filly heads the market after a relentless campaign: Albany second to Libertango at Ascot, then wins in a Curragh Group 2, the Phoenix Stakes (Group 1), a valuable York sales race by six lengths, and the Moyglare Stud Stakes (Group 1) over 7f by six and a half lengths. Officially rated 119, she is the form horse and stays this trip. The only knock at 6/4 is the workload - three big runs inside five weeks before this - and a price that leaves little room for that risk.
Senorita Bonita
Simon and Ed Crisford’s Morny heroine already has Group 1 authority. She was second in the Queen Mary, beat Libertango by three-quarters of a length in the Duchess of Cambridge on the July Course, then won the Prix Morny by four lengths on soft ground at Deauville under Oisin Murphy. She handles good to firm and soft, and brings July Course form into a Rowley Mile Group 1. A strong alternative to the favourite if 7/4 or bigger holds.
Libertango
George Boughey’s Albany winner already has the beating of Sun Goddess (Ascot, one length) and was only three-quarters of a length behind Senorita Bonita in the Duchess of Cambridge. She then won the Sky Bet Lowther Stakes (Group 2) at York on good to soft, with connections saying the ground was not ideal. First Group 1 attempt, but the form lines with both market leaders are clear, and 4/1 is a fairer price than either short favourite.
Moonrise
Andrew Balding’s progressive filly was a 66/1 second in the Windsor Castle, won the Princess Margaret (Group 3), then took the Sirenia Stakes (Group 3) at Kempton by nearly four lengths under a penalty. She missed the Lowther when the going changed. At around 20/1 she is the each-way outsider if the principals underperform; Balding has won this with Alcohol Free.
Star Of State
Joseph O’Brien’s Lowther runner-up was only half a length behind Libertango at York and since won a Curragh sales race at odds-on. Solid place claims if the market leaders falter, though she has slightly more to find on ratings.
Alwaysanangel
Third behind Senorita Bonita and Libertango in the Duchess of Cambridge, then a Cork Listed winner over 7f. Dual-entered for Friday’s Rockfel; treat as doubtful for this if she runs there first.
Snowing
Still a maiden for Aidan O’Brien after five starts and a longshot on form. Holds a Dundalk engagement; likely outsider or non-runner.
Controlla
Well beaten in the Moyglare behind Sun Goddess and has plenty to find at Group 1 level.
Cheveley Park Stakes Trainer To Watch
Aidan O’Brien is the clear statistical leader in this race and supplies the favourite again in Sun Goddess. Simon and Ed Crisford come here with a ready-made Group 1 winner in Senorita Bonita after the Morny. George Boughey’s Libertango is the yard’s first shot at this prize, but she already owns the key Ascot and York formlines.
Betting Insights for the Cheveley Park Stakes
Good ground with good to firm in places should suit all of the main three on known evidence. Senorita Bonita has won on both quick and soft; Libertango’s Lowther win came on good to soft with connections wanting quicker; Sun Goddess has won on a range of surfaces including good to firm.
Sun Goddess is the most likely winner on raw form and ratings, but 6/4 is too short for a busy filly in a three-way Group 1. Senorita Bonita is the stronger short-priced alternative on Morny and Duchess of Cambridge form. The value sits with Libertango: she has already beaten Sun Goddess, finished close up behind Senorita Bonita, arrives off a Group 2 win, and is available at around 4/1 while the other two sit at 6/4 and 7/4.
