The Good Morning Britain host enters election race following Theresa May’s “shambolic” cabinet reshuffle.
When Donald J Trump announced he was running for President of the United States, the world reacted hysterically.
Trump was installed at 200/1 originally to be elected Leader of the Free World. Putting that into perspective, Danny Dyer is 175/1 to be the next James Bond whilst Vladimir Putin is 66/1 to be the first political leader to kiss the new Royal baby.
But he did. And there may well be another reality television star poised to tackle the very top level of Government.
Bookies have released odds on Piers Morgan being elected Prime Minister, giving the Good Morning Britain presenter a 200/1 chance of replacing Theresa May.
Calling out Mrs May’s “shambolic cabinet reshuffle”, Morgan announced a plan similar to his former co-star on the US Apprentice, claiming he would run for 10 Downing Street.
He said: "Trump kept saying, 'I'm going to be President,' so, I'm going to be British Prime Minister, I'm going to be British Prime Minister, I'm going to be British Prime Minister.
“And you know what? Already people are at home going: ‘is Piers Morgan going to be Prime Minister?
“And before you know it, I issue a statement denying obviously that I have any aspiration to be Prime Minister and lead the country – which everyone knows I mean to do – and before you know it, the bookies are out.”
After officially launching his mini-campaign, an initial poll by the ITV flagship show on whether Morgan should replace May as Prime Minister – 57% voted ‘yes’ out of a sample of 32,000.
Available via Sky Bet, punters can now pile on the price offered for the ex-Britain’s Got Talent judge to proceed the current PM.
Oddschecker spokesperson George Elek said: “Initially, we laughed off suggestions that Donald Trump could ever be elected as President of the United States.
“Those laughs soon turned into ominous silence, as his campaign gathered pace and he swiftly made his way to the top job in world politics.
“With Piers Morgan piggy-backing off national outrage at May’s leadership, there may well be value in backing Morgan’s outlandish claims.
“With bookies pricing up Morgan the exact same odds as Trump, there may be more to this campaign than meets the eye.”
